SDP is proud to announce the completion and full commissioning of the Minden Gardnerville Sanitation District Grease Digestion Bio Fuel Cogeneration Plant. This project is an American Recovery & Re-investment Act (ARRA) funded project that was awarded to MGSD in May of 2010 and was fully commissioned in April 2011. This project is located about 25 miles from the SDP Energy US based cogeneration manufacturing and testing facility in Carson City Nevada.
This project was designed to run 100% off the bio-fuel that is produced from the sewage waste form the sanitation facility. In order to produce enough gas to run the cogeneration system the waste grease from restraints that would normally be disposed of in the local landfills is now being introduced into the sewage digester to up the production of gas required to run the 180kW cogeneration unit. By doing this it removes the waste grease that would normally be dumped in the landfills to now being used to produce gas to generate electricity thus making the MGSD facility a green energy facility.
The SDP cogeneration system is designed to run 100% un-manned with 24/7 monitoring by using a state of the art control system that allows the unit to start/stop automatically based on building requirements and gas production. The SDP cogeneration unit is also able to load fallow based on gas production and pressure and building electrical load. The state of the art control system is internet based and can be accessed from anywhere there is an internet connection. If a problem occurs the control system will send an e-mail alarm to the SDP service technician’s cell phone. This will alert the technician that there is a possible problem. With this information the technician will be able to access the system remotely and diagnose the problem and potentially avoid a catastrophic failure. If the technician is required to be on site to repair the problem the information received from the controller will help them pinpoint the problem and arrive on site with the proper parts to repair the unit and get it back on line quicker.
