SDP Founder and Chairman, Mr. Stowell has been in China business of forming joint ventures since they were allowed in China from 1991. His Chinese partner on the last 4 joint ventures has been Shuguang. In forming SDP, Mr. Stowell had the luxury of hand-picking the industry's best people to be the managers of the four operating divisions.

For the Production Division, he used his 30 years China experience to partner with his old friends and partners on other ventures. Thus the new joint venture Shuguang Power, Ltd. (SSP) was born. This gave SDP cart blanch (and investment) to build a world-class new factory, designed to assemble COGEN and other "alternative" energy producers.

The SDP Production Division factory is now humming and producing six units of Man 250Kw COGEN per month, plus various other 150Kw and 250Kw models. The factory has its own compressed gas station, its own testing facilities, and is presently equipped with 2 overhead cranes, forklifts, jig tables, welding equipment, cutting equipment, and fully outfitted work stations. The factory has two production and assembly lines running along the full length of the factory, which are capable to produce 30 units per month in each line. SDP will explore contracting OEM production of other alternate energy products such as waste heat generators, fuel cells, and biogas cogeneration systems.

Mr. Stowell found his ideal GM for the factory in American Bryan Mewhort, who had previously set up and run a fortune 500 chip-making factory and generator factory. Mr. Stowell and Mr. Mewhort, ably assisted by Stowell Company's Shanghai Office Manager and SSP VP, Alex Xu, put in place a high quality, low cost production facility. They recruited three Chinese engineers who had worked in generator factories to be factory manager, chief mechanical, and chief electrical engineers. Mr. Mewhort is Vice President of Operations, in charge of Production, Procurement, and assisting Mr. Stowell with US Operations.

With the production facility in place, Mr. Stowell wanted to start the US "own and operate" company from the grass roots, out-in-the field, testing and service level. The first people he recruited and surrounded himself with were the best start-up and test specialists and the most successful COGEN service managers. As a result, Paul Pradere became Manager of SDP Demonstration and Test Division, and Brian Mefford became Manager of Construction Division. SDP’s first product, a 250 Kw unit run by a MAN engine, was designed, put in the field for testing, subjected to several design changes to increase flow rates and efficiency, and then released for production.

Corporate Character - Quality First

Mr. Stowell insists every unit be factory tested and then put under full load in the customer's site application configuration and tested for 3-4 days at SDP Carson City Demonstration and Test Division. This not only ensures no start-up problems in the field, but affords Brian Mefford the opportunity to see the units operating and thereby construct the site for optimum efficiency, safety, and user-friendly maintenance. SDP Service Division also works closely with Test Center to suggest improvements in both unit and site design for longevity and reliability of COGEN system.

Management and Organization of SDP

SDP is a fully integrated COGEN supplier, and each division feeds off the others for direct help, ideas, and solutions. It is extremely productive and fun to watch. SDP's four divisions are run by their managers in coordination with each other. All activities and schedules are posted in SDP documentation center for other managers to know and tie into. The continuous development and flow through of new design and product through the 4 divisions requires close teamwork.

Board of Directors

SDP Board of Directors all live in Newport Beach area, so meetings are convenient and communication is frequent to give input for the company's strategic development. Board Member Jerry Dauderman has long cooperated with Stowell as investor in other China ventures. Board member Dick Cartwright has a career in the energy industry and is one of the leading specialists in COGEN emissions control.
