Balance of Plant

SDP Cogeneration units are installed with specifically engineered balance of plant (BOP) equipment. The BOP is designed to provide consistent fluid temperatures and pressures to the cogeneration units. The customer's interface is the heat exchanger, as the remaining BOP is actually a closed loop system. Any variations to the customers thermal loop will not effect the cogeneration units performance because of this isolation. SDP provides predictable power and heat regardless of the customers situation. The parasitic load to the cogeneration units is minimized by both using variable frequency drives and specification of energy wise pumps. Each unit has a dedicated dump radiator and fluid storage tank to help further stabilize temperatures and flows. Footprints can be modified per each customer’s available space. See the typical schematic link.

BOP items are generally similar for hot water and chilled water sites per below:

Basic Components

  • BOP Controller
  • Therm Counter
  • Dump Radiator
  • Heat exchangers
  • Cooling Pumps

Mechanical Components

  • Plumbing
  • Flanges
  • Pumps
  • Control Valves/valves
  • Spill Tanks

Electrical Components

  • Motor Control Center/Wiring
  • Protection relays
  • Kilowatt transducer
  • Visible disconnect
  • Breakers/sensors

If Site is Chilled Water COGEN Site, the following additional BOP is required:

  • Absorption Chiller
  • Cooling Tower
  • Air handling unit
  • Expansion Tank
  • Flow meter
  • Hot and Cold Water Pumps
  • Supply and Return Headers
